How we choose to do things

Mariposa Beads was born from a love of crafting, and we want the way we run our business to feel just as considered as the things our customers create.

We are a small, family-run business, which means the decisions we make are personal. We care about the quality of the products we stock, the suppliers we work with, the materials we send out into the world and the experience our customers have when they shop with us.

Thoughtful choices for a lighter footprint

  • Packaging with purpose: We favour recycled and recyclable packaging wherever it works practically, and we keep looking for ways to cut down on unnecessary single-use materials.
  • Less waste where we can: We think carefully about how stock is ordered, packed and replenished so that avoidable waste and unnecessary journeys are kept to a minimum.
  • Reusable options: Where suitable, seed beads are supplied in small reusable bags rather than disposable plastic tubes.
  • No real coral: We do not stock real coral. Coral harvesting can damage fragile reef systems, and there are plenty of beautiful alternatives that do not come at that cost.
  • Recycled materials: We are pleased to stock Jablonex Recycled glass beads , made in Europe using glass that might otherwise have gone to waste.
  • Quality over disposability: We choose products we believe makers can enjoy, use and return to, rather than treating craft supplies as throwaway purchases.

Small changes still matter

We do not believe sustainability is something a business gets to tick off as “done”. Materials change, better options appear and there is always more to learn.

So we keep reviewing how we work and make improvements when they are practical, meaningful and genuinely better.

People matter too

  • Kind, fair service: We want every customer to feel welcome, respected and comfortable asking for help, whether they are an experienced maker or buying their very first packet of beads.
  • Suppliers we can trust: We aim to build relationships with suppliers and creative partners who care about their products, their people and the way they work.
  • Clear information: We would rather be open about what we know, what we are improving and where information is limited than make claims we cannot stand behind.
  • A love of making: Mariposa Beads exists because we genuinely love the joy, focus and possibility that comes with creating something by hand.
  • Room for every maker: Creativity is not reserved for experts. We want our shop to feel approachable, useful and inspiring to makers at every stage.
